A bit concerned about my UA

by amber11, Apr 24, 2008 08:31PM
I recently checked a urine at the hospital and the results were that there was a trace of glucose, leukocytes, and blood.  I have  also been runnig a low fever about 101.  My PCP thinks that it is probably cystitis, but I have had that numerous times and have never had the glucose in my urine, therefore I was a bit concerned about that.  Do you you have any thoughts on that?  Maybe I am over reacting.

Thanks for your help!
Ambr11

I am going to recheck it in the morning.

Hi,
Glucose in the urine is generally used to screen for diabetics. The kidney is able to conserve sugar, by absorbing it so the urine is normally sugar free.
During a stressful situation, it is possible that your blood sugar may be so high, that the threshold for the kidney is surpassed and hence the sugar spills into the urine.
If you have had recurrent infections, and if the infection may not be limited to the bladder, it is possible to subsequently sustain damage within the kidney such that the capacity to conserve glucose is no longer efficient.
Other conditions such as diseases of the thyroid may also account for abnormal glucose in the urine, but not accompanied by high blood sugar.
Best to discuss things with the doctor. Repeating the test sounds like a great idea.
Stay positive.
