Unexplained Leg cramps (Again) 4year old

I've read some other questions posted on this site, and reviewed the answers and suggestions submitted. My son who is now 4, and will be 5 in July has been suffering with the same chronic leg pains, usually at night. Just like some of the other members say, it's happening around the knee area, and it comes and goes. The pain has been bothering him for the past 3 years on and off. The pains may occur for 2-3 nights, then go away for a month or two then come back again. He sometimes is aroused from his sleep and cries of severe pains in his legs.

After a few additional visits to his Pediatrician, and even one Emergency room visit, to include x-rays and blood work being done, it's all been chalked up to "Growing Pains"
Recently however, I'm noticing some nausea occurring at the same time the leg cramps are current. I read that one parent mentioned the intake of milk maybe having something to do with it. My son does love milk, and maybe drinks too much of it in my opinion.

The latest visit to the Pediatrician did recommend seeing a child Orthopedic Doctor, and doing more blood work.
I'm wondering if this sounds like Rheumatoid Arthritis or are these leg pains really a combination of growing pains and maybe the need for him to hold back on his Milk and or Lactose intake?

Thanks for the input. He will be going to visit an Ortho Dr. soon.
I can't say he has many headaches, but when I posted the message I remembered that when he complains of the pains in his legs, the tempeture of his legs feel slightly warm.

So we will go to see the Ortho and do the additional blood work and hope for the best.

Regards

I have to girls both of them had leg pain at three. with my first child it was Arthritis, it showed up in her blood work  at the age of three. sometimes in the morning she could not walk and i had to give he warm baths. it was worse at night and in morning for her. she was treated until about six and now she only has problems every once and awhile. my other child.... the reason i posted the question to you " does he have headaches when he coughs or cries?"  she is three now and was saying since two that her feet were burning and  everyone was saying they were just falling asleep but i could tell by her cry she was in more pain. and it happened almost everyday. dr sent her for mri and it showed Chiari one malformation. but they didn't think that was what was wrong with feet then about a year later she started having bad headaches when she cried so dr had mri with contrast and was shocked to see that her spinal fluid was 100% blocked from going back up around the back of her brain. she had surgery four months ago and is doing great. It is a very rare but you might want to check into it. before the headaches started the pain had started to include her legs too. like i said it is very rare and it sounds more like arthritis to me. the dr should be able to do blood work and the can also check for a gene that has to do with arthritis. hope this helps a little.
