Did Cipro really work

Ok as you know my wife and I have both taken cipro for chlamydia. We took it 2-times a day for 3-weeks. We waited 4-weeks after finishing the medicine to re-test. Both of our tests came back negative, which shocked me. So now it can only be 1 of 4 reasons. Also the first time tested I only tested not my wife, it came back positive so I assumed since I had it my wife had it to according to my doc, who said if one has it you both have it. So the reasons are.

1. The cipro really does work.

2. My test was mixed up with other test and I didn't have it in the first place.

3. I had a bacteria in my prostate that wasn't chlamydia and my urine sample had a bacteria growing in it and they assumed since I was testing for chlamydia that is what it was.

4. After 4-weeks of not taking the medicine and being tested there was still antibotics in out system that was stopping the growth and causing a negative result.

So now do I have anything to be concerned about or I hope I don't have it anymore.

I would say it could be # 1 or 2.  Maybe the cipro worked because you were on it for so long, or maybe you had a false positive.

If you don't have it 4 weeks out, I wouldn't worry about it unless your symptoms return.

So what exactely causes a false positive

Problems in the lab, with the specimen, etc.  There is no such thing as a 100% accurate test.

How reliable do you think a test for chlamydia is. They test in Houston put it in a icebox and at the end of the day send it to another city about 4-hours away.

That's pretty standard procedure.  At this point, you might not ever know if you actually had it and the cipro worked, or what.
