Cancer of the cheek

Hi. My dentist referred me to an oral surgeon for a biopsy of my cheek. It has deep red and white patches and a hard area. The oral surgeon would not take medical insurance, so I called up an ENT. Is an ENT qualified to do this type of biopsy? Also, if it proves to be cancer, what are the odds of survival?

An ENT is qualified to do a biopsy of the cheek region. Unfortunately the five year survival rate for squamous cell carcinoma (the most common form of mouth cancer) is still only 50%.
The earlier the diagnosis is made, the better the prognosis.
