Rheumatologist appointment

by Rena705, Apr 27, 2008 12:36PM
Well, I have my appointment with the Rheumatologist tomorrow at noon and it should be interesting according to everyone that has already seen one!  Lot's of poking and prodding and blood taking...hope that she finds some answers for me.
The pain in my legs has not changed any since I have been on the Elavil but my speech has improved somewhat since being off of the Lyrica. The pain in my hands has returned with a vengeance as well, hadn't had much trouble with that since December but it's baaaack!   However, I have been having anxiety like attacks quite frequently but apparently that is a common side effect of the Elavil.  I am only on 30mg/day and start 40mg/day on Tuesday so we will see what happens I guess.
So, I will let you all know how the appointment goes on Monday I guess and that is about all I have to say today!

Oh, Yeah...it's NOT SNOWING for a change...the sun is shining and I am going to go sit in my new 5th wheel and pretend I am at the lake for a while! ha ha ha

Hopefully the rheumy will have some answers for you.  And yes, be prepared to surrender a lot of blood!  If it wasn't for my rheumy, his thoroughness, and his ability to "catch" what others have missed, I wouldn't have found my answer.

Good luck to you...

Thanks for your thoughtful wishes wanna!  I am hopeful that they will get this figured out once and for all...maybe even put a certain in-active neurologist in her place?  One can only hope right!?

I guess since I have not had an appt. with one yet, I don't really know what a rheumatologist does? I thought at first it had to do with rheumatoid arthritis or something arthritic in nature? (I don't even know what rheumatoid means?)

What sort of things do they need so much blood for? Esp. since I did have some testing done for CBC, sed rate, Lyme, B12, etc. What other things do they need to eliminate as a mimic for MS that weren't done already?

Rena, good luck on your appt. tomorrow!

I asked to be seen by a rheumatologist because I am having such debilitating pain in my legs and hands and the neuro insists that it is not MS and has done nothing to determine what it might be.  I had to ask for this appointment mind you...my g.p. admits to having no knowledge in these areas.  I am concerned about fibromyalgia but it could easily be caused by something else.

Rheumatologists treat arthritis, certain autoimmune diseases, musculoskeletal pain disorders and osteoporosis. There are more than 100 types of these diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, lupus, back pain, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia and tendonitis.
