Lungs

If diagnosed with interstitial lung disease, how do you know which disorder under ILD?  There are so many.  Thank you.

In some instances, the clinical presentation, the association with an auto-immune disease, CT scan findings and bronchoalveolar lavage findings may suggest one or another of the ILDs, but in most instances an open lung biopsy is required to establish the specific type.  A tissue diagnosis can be important for both, prognosis and decisions regarding therapy.

Welcome to the club.  I have been through the gamut since returning from Japan last year.  Bronchoscopes (2), VATS surgery and open lung biopsy.  Like you I was diagnosed with ILD but not one specific one.  At first they thought it was a cousin to TB but that was ruled out.  Then Sarcoidosis but that was ruled out because my disease doesn't follow the characteristics of Sarc.  Now my doctor thinks it is in remission and we only treat it when I have flair ups.  It is in both lungs all throughout both lungs.  I wish you luck and my prayers are with you.
