the effects of estrogen?

What I don't understand is the role that estrogen plays during menopause, etc.. For example, why does estrogen cause hot flashes during menopause, or peri-menopause, and then get WORSE if you take tamoxafin, for example? Since tamoxifin is supposed to suppress estrogen then it seems that it would suppress hot flashes, not cause themto get worse! This just makes no sense to me at all.
Secondly, does anyone know what this symptom is that I've been having as I've gone into menopause, BEFORE taking any hormone medication, etc. It feels like hot tingling burning specs of sensation that hit me, but I don't get sweaty or hot or flushed, it just feels slightly painful and lasts only minutes or even seconds.(?!)
