An injection for a heart test and 1 year of headpain and a hot burning sensation in head.

by belita, Apr 28, 2008 03:32AM
Sept 11th/06 I went for a 2 day heart test at a hospital. I went home after the tests each day.
Day one - intravenous injection, treadmill, heart scan -20min. test
Day two - fast, injection in vein and told to eat lunch and return for same type of scan..
No adverse reactions to tests on Day one
Day two I had an Immediate reaction after injection - hot burning feeling at top of head - I told no one - ate lunch and returned for the test. I was having severe panic attacks during and could barely lie down to do the  same heart scan I had on day one (it was a scan and no treadmill test) Because I was so agitated the  nurses asked why I was having such a difficult time when I'd had the same test yesterday. I was very embarrased and forced myself to go through with it while a nurse held stod beside me. I returned home exhausted and confused, that night I had horrible, bizarre nighmares all night long. In the morning I woke Not immediately,  I consulted a family doctor, he teated me by perscribing  Tyonel 3 and Ibuprophen. I did not mention what happened during the test at the hospital. I still felt disorientated and thought maybe I caught some kind of virus.  I called the hospital where I had the tests done and explained my situation. The nurse said it was impossible to have this reaction to the injection. I asked what I was injected with and she said it was impossible to tell me what was in the injection, because their not always the same ingredients. I asked to speak to someone else and she sort of chuckeled and said it would be very difficult  to get an answer to my question or even a return call, and that no one could help me at this time. I called the heart specialist and did not receive a reply until after 3 calls, he said no one reacts to the injections and seemed annoyed.
After e wks there was very little improvement. April 2007 diagnosised with Giant Cell and started on 60 mg of predisone immediately. I Could not get a biopsy done, shortage of doctors. I had a very bad reaction to predisone, severe depression, manic, had to use a walker almost immediately, muscle atrophy. To date there is no improvent in the muscle atroht and I still have severe head pain and eye pain. Sometimes it feels like someone is piercing my eyes and tope of head with a sharp object. Never in my life have I ever experienced anything like this.
Is it possible to have a reaction to the injection? I have severe environmental sensitivities and  become dizzy and fatigued when exposed to  zerox machines, computors, etc.  I can't help feeling that something went wrong that day and I reacted to the substance in the injection because of the severe reaction mmediately after. How do I get an answer to my question? What was in the injection? The quality of my life has changed considerably, I have head pain almost everyday and piercing pain in my eyes and at the top where the burning sensation occurred after the test.
I was finishing my master's degree and have had to put everything on hold because I have headaches almost everyday all day. Could this cause Giant Cell or do I even have Giant Cell. Its been over a year with no improvement. Predisone helps stop the pain for awhile but am I talking a medication I don't even need. I'm having terrible side effects from it. The doctors are starting to question their diagnosis of Giant Cell. I always have but I'm afraid of going blind so I continue to take the predisone.

Hi

How are you?

I understand that this may be hard for you. I think I have answered your previous post and I am just trying to check how things are. Have they reconsidered the diagnosis of Giant Cell ? The headaches and other symptoms you have may be associated with anxiety and depression. Depression may cause headaches and headaches may cause anxiety attacks and depression. Pain is one manifestation of a psychosomatic disorder thus, it is essential to consider psychological causes for your symptoms also.

I hope things are better now. Do keep us updated regarding your progress.
