Hello, New Here

Hi everyone, my name is Jessica and I'm new to this forum, I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago and was recently put on Metformin...I've seen a few posts about it, but thought I'd do my own...anyway, I wanna say I was diagnosed when I was 16 or so (now 22), I've never had a period. ever. I also have dark patches of skin in some areas (I read that was a side effect of PCOS) and some kind of heavy facial hair growth (my biggest insecurity)...so my Doctor told me that the Metformin could help me with all of the above problems as well as helping me to lose weight, which would be great. I was wondering if anyone else has had these positive effects with it? I've only been on it for about two weeks or so, any info would be much appreciated =)

Hi Jess!

I was diagnoed with PCOS when I was about 16 or so too. I had a constant period for 2 years (every single day....the whole two years - it was the worst time of my life) my doc put me on the pill but i took really bad migraine so had to stop it. and then my periods stopped altogether. I was referred to an ob gyn and Metformin was the first thing they put me on. I had to stop taking it after only a few months as it made me very sick and was affecting my day to day life (i was missing school etc..). It didnt really do anything for me apart for make me sick to be honest but everyone reacts differently to it. all you can do is give it a try. I have quite alot of hair on my lower back and some on my stomach (both areas which i hate!) and it ddnt help that either - tho i wasnt taking it for long enuff to know if it would have helped this. I hope it works for you... i really really do....... if you need anythin else or jst want a random chat feel free to ask!!
