A Tear...?

by ShailynH, Apr 28, 2008 01:44PM
A year ago my Gyno had me change from Yasmin to Yaz.  The First 3 months were normal, but when the 4th month came I stopped having a period.  I also started to get really sore while having sex.. to the point of tears.  This was weird to me because I never had problems with being sore before.  With all the changes my body was going through I had a feeling that it must be the Yaz.  Well.. On April 7th, 2008 (a year later) I went to the Gyno for my yearly.  I voiced to her my concern about not having a period and that It would make me feel better to have one monthly.  I also told her about how painful it was for me to have sex.  After that discussion she began to do my exam.. the first thing out of her mouth was "I know why it hurts so bad... You have a big tear on the lower part of your vagina".  She also said that it had to do with my body not producing enough lubrication.  She thought that the switch back to Yasmin might help with this but also told me to use "astroglyde".  She prescribed me a pain reliver jel to put on when the pain was to much to handle.. and also told me to wait a week before having sex again.  I followed all of this.. I waited a week.. used the lubrication.. Not only did the spot where the tear was hurt.. but the lube made my whole vagina feel like it was on fire.  I also got a bladder infection from this.. (and yes I went to the restroom after having sex and showered).. so my boyfriend and I both thought that maybe my body just needed a little longer to get better.. so we waited two weeks.. well last night was our two week mark and we had sex again.. And yes you guessed it .. I tore again.. (this time I didn't use the lube because of the pain it caused last time)...   I don't want this to be a problem my whole life.. is there anything I can do about this?  I wanted to ask you before spending more money to go back to the gyno.  (note: my paps came back normal and I have no STD's... very lost on what to do)

Hello,

Unfortunately, I think you will need to go back to your gyn to help sort all this out.  You may want to see another gyn if to get a second opinion.  I'm at a disadvantage b/c I'm not able to examine you.  This all might be due to a tear in the vaginal mucosa that needs time to heal, but having another person take a look might be helpful to.

Best of luck,

Dr. Downing
