Question about recovery?

by Nichole28, Apr 28, 2008 08:16PM
It has been a month now since I presented with stroke like symptoms but I was no diganosed with a stroke. Clear MRI and CT scans but those were done as soon as I got to the hospital. I am still having issues with dizziness and stuttering and twitching but was in the clear for 3 weeks until wed evening. I guess I kind of had a relapse I am doing better but still not feeling great, I have also had a major headache for over a week now. How common after having a stroke is it to have things like this happen?? Do you have good days and bad??

Dear,

You probably had a Transient Ischaemic Attack or a mini stroke  caused by the temporary disturbance of blood supply to a restricted area of the brain, resulting in brief neurologic dysfunction that usually persists for less than 24 hours. The most frequent symptoms include temporary loss of vision ; difficulty speaking (aphasia); weakness on one side of the body (hemiparesis); and numbness or tingling (paresthesia), usually on one side of the body. Impairment of consciousness is very uncommon. If there are neurological symptoms persisting for more than 24 hours, it is classified as a cerebrovascular accident, or stroke.
You have to be alert and followup your doctor regularly, take youe medicines, as weakness of your muscles may precipitate a stoke.

Thank you for responding, I am having a very hard time finding a dr that will take me seriously because the docs at the hospital couldn't figure out what was wrong with me so they basically said I was making it up and causing my own symptoms *gag*. My symtomps lasted at their worst for almost 2 weeks and now I am dealing with daily headaches and stuttering and tingling in my left arm and leg. I put a call into my dr 2 days ago and she has yet to call me back, so I made an appt to see her for the 7th. I am also not on any kind of medication and that worries me because if I did have some kind of stroke you would think I would need to be. Anyway I am rambling but thanks for writting me back!!

I had the exact same thing and am now finding my doctors(2 now) not willing to look into WHY I had the TIA. It's scary and frustrating, isn't it?
What have your docs told you, caused yours? I'm in the middle of doing a lot of my own research into why..

They have told me nothing, they told me it was all in my head and I made my symptoms worse the more I thought about them which is such a joke. I have been doing alot of reserach as well because I am tired of no one helping me. I finally have my GP listening to me thank god I  have another appt with her tomorrow. I go see the specialist at UCLA June 24th and maybe we can get some answers.
