Asymmetrical ventricles

by cjb203, Apr 28, 2008 08:19PM
My wife is in her 28th week of pregnancy, and an MRI just showed that the fetus has asymmetrical ventricles.  What will this mean for our baby?  Probably a very exact prediction is impossible, but statistically what are the odds and the possible complications?

Thank you,

CJB

As this is a medical question, I suggest that you bring this question to an MD with expertise in development.  There are some studies that have found association between asymmetrical ventricles and developmental delay but there are also studies that find that atypical cranial ultrasound results are a poor predictor of development at 12 and 18 months. At the very least, many children with an atypical cranial ultrasound result do not experience any adverse outcome. Why don't you try and ask the experts in the family medicine forum on MedHelp?  The web address is: http://www.medhelp.org/forums/show/102.

Best of luck.
