First Blood Work after Surgery - Doctor What do you Think.

by CatieC, Apr 29, 2008 01:06PM
I am a 49 year old female, being treated for Hypothyroidism for at least 10 years and taking 75 mcg Synthroid. Jan 08 my primary doctor found a nodule on the right side. I had an US and FNA which came back inconclusive. The slides were sent to Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York and they could not rule out Pap Cancer. On 3/25/08 I had a partial thyroidectomy. The pathology states Follicular Adenoma arising in a background of marked chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, with hurthle cell changes, consistent with Hashimoto.

I have been on my usual 75 mcg of Synthroid since my surgery. I just had my first blood tests run and here are the results:

TSH, 3rd generation - 1.15 (0.40-4.50)
T4, Free - 1.6 (0.8-1.8)
T3, Total - 109 (60-181)
Thyroid Peroxidase AB - 224 (< or = 35)

My endo told me I have Hashimoto's and will retest in 6 months. She did not increase my dosage of Synthroid.

Doctor what is your opinion on my blood results. Should I be tested in 6 months or sooner. I am cold most of the time (especially my finger tips), my hair is thinning, I have night sweats and mood swings.

Thank you so much for your time.

You have hashimotos with currently normal thyroid function on 75mcg.

However with the recent surgery, your dose may need to be changed -- usually would retest 2-3 (ie, not 6) months after surgery to confirm this....
