Upper Right Side Abdominal Pain

by Wednesdaysarmy, Apr 29, 2008 01:23PM
I am a 22 year old Female and I have been recently experiencing an increased frquency in urination along with the feeling of needing to urinate but not much coming out. I went to the doctor and had a urine test and it came back negative so I don't have a UTI. About a week after the results, I began to have a sharp pain in my upper right abdomen. It is above my bellybutton but a bit off to the right. I have no other symptoms besides the pain and urination. Could these be related? Should I ask to go see a urologist or another specialist?

Thank You

Hi,

I suggest that you go seek a urologic consult. A repeat urinalysis with urine culture will be able to guide management. Also, a baseline ultrasound of the kidneys, ureter and bladder will be able to rule out any urinary tract stones.

Also, a gynecologist consult may be necessary .Have you ever had a pelvic examination done? A complete pelvic examination and a pap smear may be able to help. This is just to rule out any underlying gynecologic involvement.

Are there any problems with the menstrual cycle?

Any significant sexual history which could have led to your symptoms?

My menstrual cycle is normal, no problems there. No other symptoms besides the abdominal pain. I have made an appointment with a urologist but it isn't for another week. Now I have noticed that the abdominal pain is increasing in frequency and it seems to be connected to what I eat. If I eat a big meal, the pain is stronger (5 out of 10 in a pain scale) and lasts longer. Would a urologist be able to help me if it is a problem with my gallbladder or intestines? Thank you for your help.
