surgery for intra atrial septal aneurysm

I am a 49 yr old female who had a stroke one week ago.  After having a TEE, my doctor told me I had an atrial septal aneurysm.  I understand what it is, but have no clue what they do about this!!!   He mentioned pills or surgery - but I am not even 50.  Can't this thingy be repaired?  Help!!!

This is a diificult area and there is no scientific data that closure --either by device or surgery is better than medication for a PFO.  There is however an association between stroke and patients with a PFO/atrial septal aneurysm.  Different doctors have different opinions but again there is no clear data on which is best--medicine or closure.  You should see an interventional cardiologist who does the procedure and listen to the risks and benefits.
