Sharp pain during the onset of urination

by caliborn, Apr 29, 2008 05:04PM
I recently got screened for STIs (Gonorrhea and Chlamidia) and a UTI after experiencing a painful sexual experience along with both a sharp and burning pain during urinations to follow. This was the second time I've experienced pain during urination and was told that no bacteria or yeast was found in my urine sample and was sent home to find it resolve itself over time. This time, I was also told that a small pimple-like lesion was located between my vagina and anus, which they claim could have been the cause for the burning sensation I was feeling. I was sent home, but returned a few days later after experiencing a low 100 degree fever, fatigue and muscle aches. I suspected the lesion below my vaginal opening was due to herpes, but was told once again that the lesion was probably just an open pimple and did not look like herpes and was therefore given 250mg capsules of Cephalexin antibiotics to take for the lesion and potential urinary tract infection. The day after, I began to notice a copious amount of light yellow discharge coming out of my vagina (enough to soak my underwear). I began wearing a pad, which further irritated my lesion and yesterday I noticed a cluster of red bumps or rash on my right butt cheek next to my anus. The pain during urination persists and it feels as if my entire vaginal opening and my hemorrhiod, which has not been problematic for several years now, are beginning to inflame. Is there something else I should be screened for other than Gonorrhea, Chlamidia, and Herpes? And is this even an STI case I'm dealing with? Thank you for your time!

I would go back to your doc as soon as possible, and ask that your new sores be cultured.  Herpes can take on different forms for people.

Ask them to do a PCR swab or a type specific culture on the spot, and ask them to check for staph as well.

They shouldn't be brushing you off, and sending you home to heal with all the MRSA that's been reported lately.

Thank you so much for bringing the MRSA to my attention. I looked up the images of the skin infections it can cause and mine looks very similar. I actually work with that same strain of staph in my microbiology lab, and now I wonder if it is possible that I could have been infected by that means. I have already set up the appointment to get that checked since new symptoms have also occurred such as a lower back pain when I cough or jump and a more intense headache which all began yesterday. Again, thank you for your suggestions!

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

I scheduled a visit with my regular doctor today. My symptoms completely subsided and the cluster of red bumps that I mentioned last time had dried out and scabbed up so another culture could not be done. I mentioned to my doctor every single symptom I was experiencing from day one and as soon as the doctor looked at my lesions, she was almost certain it was herpes. Of course, no one can be 100% certain so I had my blood drawn to confirm. I am truly devastated!

Why didn't you see your doc when you had symptoms?

And if it is herpes, there isn't any reason to be devestated.  I've had it for 3 years, and I promise you it hasn't changed my life at all.  Of course, no one wants herpes, but its not nearly as bad as you think it is.

While you wait for your results, check out the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com - its free, and you can either download it or read it on the internet.

The soonest my doctor had an opening was after the weekend so I went in first thing monday morning but by that time, everything had subsided except the lesions, which were still present although scabbed over.

Thank you for the website! I know I will find it very helpful. My doctor said considering it was my first outbreak, it was pretty mild and no lesions were found on my genital area which she said can be painful, however I read that the wet discharge I was experiencing was due to outbreaks occurring on my cervix?

It is very comforting to know that having herpes has not changed your life at all. I suppose I have just had a horrible impression of it all. These passed few weeks, I've done nothing but worry that I may not longer be wanted or desired by anyone along with the risk of passing it on to my children if I am to have any, etc. I feared that the life I always dreamed for myself is now over. Since the relationship I had ended just before I began experiencing symptoms, I've felt so alone and lost throughout this whole thing so it's good to know I'm actually not alone.

You will never pass this to your children unless you have genital to genital contact with them, and I am just assuming that isn't going to happen lol.

You can also check out a great website called the Original Herpes Home Page.  Just google it to find the address.

But keep in mind that this might not be herpes, ok?

It has been confirmed by my doctor today...as expected, I have HSV-2. Considering my first outbreak was pretty minor...a few bumps on my rear...it isn't the outbreaks that scare me the most. To be honest, I've had fevers or flu viruses worse than this experience. The hardest thing for me to accept is how I'll manage future relationships. Whether I'll be accepted now that it's official or how rejection will affect my confidence. This isn't the type of thing I'm willing to share with someone right off the bat, but at the same time, it is essential to share this with someone who can potentially be my partner. Do you have any advice for me as to how I can learn to do this the "right" way?

How was this diagnosed?  A visual exam is not very accurate for herpes.

Assuming it is herpes, let me give you a couple of sites -
