This patient support community is for loved ones of people who drink and are trying to quit for discussions relating to abuse, behavioral issues, caring for yourself, counseling, divorce and separation, enabling, guilt, and when to get medical help.
hello, everyone. i'm totally new to this, but i started looking on line for some kind of community type thing, because i realize that i do need some help. i was looking into the alanon stuff, but got kind of scared off a bit because they come on really strong. so i wound up here.
anyhow, my mother is the alcoholic, she lives with my dad. they are both old. i don't live with them, but i'm nearby. my mom's health has gotten so bad and my poor dad is having a horrible time trying to take care of things. i know i can't be the one to help, it's too hard on me emotionally, but what can i do to get some help for my dad?
i'm struggling between trying to set my own boundaries and find a healthy way for me to live, and the fact that my parents have some serious health issues. i'm wondering if anyone has any insight for me, if anyone has been through this same thing. thank you!

I have not experienced the same thing as you but I have had alcoholics in my life.I understand that this can be a very frustrating and emotional time. I did a search and came across a site with a number that you can call that might be of use to you: http://www.addictioncareoptions.com/about.asp

Hello! Thank you for the site, I will check it out! Yes, I'm totally emotionally drained at this time, that's one of the toughest things. And not knowing totally where to turn. Thanks for the words of encouragement!

Good luck with everything and I wish you and your family the best.
Would it be reasonable to find them an assisted living facility? Some of those are quite nice and have good, safe, environments.
