3 year old boy with "lump" on top of his head

by Mommyof2Boys115, Apr 30, 2008 01:28PM
My 3 year old boy has a 'knot' on the top of his head. The pediatrician ordered some blood work and x-rays. The x-rays came back and the doctor indicated that it is a 1.3 by 1 cm in size lucent/cebaceous cyst. He does not see the need to see a neurologist because "if there's a need to 'get in there' a neurologist cannot operate" So he is referring us to a neurosurgeon.
My boy acts fine, has never had any type of seizure or any other symptom to indicate this "lump" is a problem, we just kept noticing it wasn't going away after his fontanels closed. What could this be? Any information that could put my mind at ease will be really helpful while we wait to be scheduled to see the neurosurgeon.
Thanks!
