MedHelp Censorship and Deletetion

by GoingToMakeIt, Apr 30, 2008 02:09PM
I do believe that your censorship has gone to outrageous levels. I feel like we are in school.
You are losing a lot of members over this. Maybe you should reconsider why you are here? Without happy members, you won't have a viable product.

Hi,

We are only deleting posts that are in violation of our terms of conditions and that members find offensive. If a member complains or reports abuse in regards to a post, we will review it and remove if we feel it is offensive.

I've had only one post deleted on the MS board because one of the moderators did not agree with the treatment that I was on and thought it would "confuse other members". At least she apologized later, but I thought I would mention it anyway.

I find that MedHelp allows many freedoms that are in the same vein as the people @ A&E Television, with Regard to the Soprano Series. HBO allowed the 'F' word, in it's total profane utterance, and A&E decided to make this show available to a more diverse age group by replacing the "F" word with FORGET, (you). We all know what they're really saying.  We all love our freedom of speech, and yet, to keep this site as user friendly as possible, I  feel that MedHelp is within their rights to use their own discretion when allowing/ (or not),what they deem acceptable for this forum.  Information sharing and support systems seem to be more of a goal here, than just allowing folks to say whatever may cross their mind. They are after all Drs. who are supposed to know what's best for us. No? Ant B

I find it appropriate measures.  This is a moderated health site .. which makes it a bit different than unmoderated communities found elsewhere online.  That is my opinion after posting 2yrs as a thyroid disorders member.  I am glad to know people are watching over my posts and my members' posts .. keeps it all in check and balanced.

I will stand on my first comment. At the time I made it, perfectly valid post(s) were deleted. MedHelp did reinstate the post(s) but the damage was done. I was not referring to profanity or bashing other members. (That kind of behavior should not be tolerated.)

Honestly... I think MedHelp has done a fantastic job. But they are going to run into these little issues on the way and unfortunately there will be moderators in some forums who will decide to make their own rules and not abide by MedHelp's rules.

Well... maybe I take back what I said. One of my posts in the lupus forum just disappeared. It didn't violate any of MedHelp's rules. MedHelp ???

If you don't proof read your posts, then maybe you've never experienced losing sentences, or parts of sentences, that just seem to fall into a black hole. I always give my posts a quick read so I know that I don't have gaps where totally benign text once stood.  Seems, that it's when I don't check first, that these black holes appear. Don't ask me how this happens, I havn't the slightest!  Here's to your health!!!!! Ant B

Hi,

Actually we don't see any comments of yours deleted on that post. Are you sure that's the right one?

Hi MedHelp,

I owe you an apology. I actually sent a PM to Momzilla apologizing. Apparently there were two posts about the sun in two of my communities (lupus & autoimmune). I didn't realize it until later.

Keep up the good work. Again.... sorry for upsetting anyone.
