What does this LP report mean?

by Fluffysmom, Apr 30, 2008 03:12PM
My neuro said everything looked good on my LP and blood work, but I didn't get a report until today.  For Lyme Ab IgG WBlot; Bands present NONE (insufficient number of bands for positive result), same with Lyme Ab IGM WBlot.  I get that this means I don't have Lyme Disease.

There were also a couple off abnormal results, such as

Electrophoriesis (serum/Hgb)         Albumin MS  3500 L    Reference (3860-5020)   Units  mg/dl

Immunology   ANA   Positive      ANA weakly positive at 1:40 dilution.  Pattern is homogenous and speckled.

The CSF analysis said:  CSF total protein is minimally elevated but CSF alvumin and IgG levels are within normal limits.  The computed CSF IgG index and synthesis rate are not elevated.  No oligocloal bands are identified on high resolution electrophoresis of paired serum and CSF.

Impression:  Essentially normal study.  No evidence ofintra-CNS production of IgG, and no oligoclonal bands seen.

My neuro said she doesn't think I have MS, and wouldn't venture a guess as to what IS going on with me.  She sent me in for a full spine MRI, which showed "Suggestion of patchy T2 signal alteration within the viualized {thoracic} cord".

My brain MRI showed multiple mm sized lesions throughout the white matter, though my neuro says its not "textbook" presentation.

I'm at a loss as to whether she's correct in assuming I don't have MS (she said that before she saw the spine report).  If so, do the other small irregularities point more towards lupus or a connective tissue disorder or something like that?  Can anyone tell from this information?

If you've waded all the way through this post, thank you for your patience.  If you have any input, thank you even more!

Kathy
