sharp (contraction like)pain in upper left abdomen

by sarahkroop, Apr 30, 2008 08:31PM
For the last 4 days i have been experiencing sharp (contraction like) pains in my upper left (but very close to the middle ) of my abdomen. The pain comes and goes just like contractions. Occasionally there is nausea. My doctor thought that it was gallbladder related , maybe stones, ultrasound showed nothing. Dr. considered ct scan , decided against it at last min. Sent home with vicodin, told to come back the next day.  Pain just as bad , vicodin works for 30-40 mins then i start feeling it break threw again. After searching for similar symptoms online appears like other people with same problems have had misdiagnosed hernia , gluten allergy, or ulcers. Dr. did not ask about ulcers and was annoyed by online research. It should be noted that in the week prior to this i had a severe flu with a powerful cough , which i still have. The pain happens at random but also after i swallow anything or move around a lot.   Going to a GI specialist tomorrow . any suggestions?

my husband went through all the symptoms. he had x-rays, ct scan, upper and lower endoscopy (which the doctor discovered a very angry silver dollar size ulcer),  biopsied of his ulcer and found out he has h-pylori. he already finished taking his prevpak and is now on the second week of the sucralfate-nexium-ranitidine therapy. the pain has not disappeared but the discomfort is not so prevalent. we are hoping that the pain will go away soon.
