The blood could come from several sites.
One possibility is infection, usually along the lining of the urethra (the tube through which the urine passes) up to the bladder.
A prostatic enlargement (benign or malignant) could also present as bleeding. Symptoms of obstruction to flow are more common.
Stones may cause bleeding as well.
Of course, the problem may be due to the blood itself, failing to clot. If there are other symptoms like bruises and bleeding elsewhere – this may be worth investigating further.
