biopsy results for microcalcifications

by heika, May 01, 2008 02:53PM
I got my biopsy results for a tight cluster of pleomorphic calcifications yesterday and the results were benign. There is some cell change the surgeon intends to monitor or remove (I'm voting removal; I don't have the temperament for monitoring), but she kept on repeating, there is no cancer so relax.  I wanted to report the good results because I know while I was waiting I was desperate to read that someone with suspicious microcalcifications got a report back that didn't say cancer.  I hope this gives some hope to someone else in my shoes,  who is  reading this forum's messages with the kind of horrible anxiety I had for a solid week.  And for anyone scheduled for a stereotactic biopsy,  relax. It's no big deal. My biggest discomfort during the biopsy was listening to Neil Diamond. Even the numbing needle was nothing, and I'm a whiner.

Thanks for your post.  I guess I'm the one you wrote it for!!  I have a cluster of suspicious microcalcifications and the radiologist told me that she was 98% sure they were benign, but I will have a biopsy as soon as we can schedule.  I'm not concerned at all about have a biopsy, but I will definitely be relieved when it's over and they confirm that they are benign........The anxiety is the real issue!

Congratulations on your results.  But I have to agree, the anxiety is the worst.  I've been waiting for my open biopsy on several spread out "pockets of clustered microcalcifications" that the radiologist said were "suspicious for malignancy" back on March 19TH !!!  I don't even know if I will trust the results from them after all this bumbling they have done with my scheduling and paperwork.  It has been THE worst time in my life.  I am praying for good results on the 12th of May :)

It really is a shame that they can't get it together enough to schedule these surgeries sooner rather than later.  It seems that they really don't understand the sleepless nights, high anxiety and the what if's.
