Enlarged heart?

by 40smama, May 01, 2008 04:11PM
Gosh, this post-partum stuff is nothing to joke about!  I've continued to have swelling in the calves, ankles and feet - so much that I can't wear my shoes that I wore home from the hospital.  We saw the dr yesterday & he sent us for a chest x-ray to see if my heart is enlarged.  Huh?  I've never even heard of this.  I'm on a direutic (sp?) but it hasn't worked very well yet.  We haven't heard the results of the x-ray yet.  This is kind of scary.  Has anyone else gone throught this?  The doctor doesn't seem to be overly concerned - that makes me feel better..............

One of my friends had this in December, post partum periocarditis.  It is very very serious.  She was advised to never become pregnant again.  She is on medication for the rest of her life.  I sincerely hope you don't have this.  She was back in the hospital a week after getting home from her c/s and she stayed there two weeks.  I would bet you don't have it b/c she had a severe crushing feeling in her chest along with swelling, she felt she couldn't breathe, and went back the hospital by ambulance.  I had swelling after my last c/s that took a while to go down, and I took medication that helped.  I hope you get some answers, if it is your heart you need treatment right away.  If your dr. isn't concerned I would think that's a good sign.

Keep a follow up check up w/your doctor, but do not get concearned! it is normal to swell up after you had bubs!! every woman i've talked had told me that after delivery they swelled up like balloons!

I'm so sorry your having to go through this!!  I had the same problem.  My feet and ankles got SOOO swollen during my pregnancy and were pretty bad at the very end.  I thought, at least once I have her this will go away.  I had my c-section and they blew up 2 or 3 times the size!!!!!  It freaked me out but my dr said it is completely normal and that it can get worse after delivery before it gets better.  He told me it could take up to 2 weeks to fully go down and sure enough it took mine the full 2 weeks and then one morning I woke up and OMG, I had ankles!!!  No more tree stumps.  It was hard to deal with because I had absolutely no shoes that would fit on my big sausages!!!  My mom went with me to get a pair of flip flops 2 times too big just so I could have something on my feet!  I'm glad you dr is doubled checking everything to be sure but it sounds pretty normal to me.  Hang in there girl, you'll have your feet and legs back soon :o)
