L shaped scar on nose

by kelijayne, May 01, 2008 06:22PM
Hi there, My daughter is 4 years old and 18 months ago she fell. As i was not in the room i do not know what into but she now has a nasty L shaped scar coming down the bridge of her nose and across towards the bottom. This scar has healed quite wide as it was never stitched and when she scrunches up her adorable face (which she loves to do) Or smiles, this scar wrinkles badly and almost looks like a worm under her skin. Also from the side the profile of her nose has a big step in it.
I have had sleepless nights about this because as a girl i understand how growing up girls are made to feel as unnatractive as possible by other cruel chldren.
She also has a twin sister which is another cruel blow for her as she will obviously see that she is different.
I have taken her to a plastic surgeon who said that there is nothing really that can be done. He mentioned laser treatment but told me that as she is mixed white/indian that the piment of her skin could be affected making it look worse? The scar is already white in comparison to her brown skin.
I know that i have rambled on, but i would give my left leg to fix this for her, im desperate for any hope or advice that you can give to me.
Is it likely that 10 years from now something will be available ti help fix this?
Thankyou so much for your time,
Kellie Bowers.

At her age, it is not appropriate to try a scar revision.  As she grows and the scar becomes an issue for her, it would be appropriate to obtain a second opinion about scar revision.  At that time she would probably be willing to undergo an elective procedure under local anesthesia.
