Eye injury

by valencia89, May 01, 2008 09:27PM
About 3 years ago I had a really bad eye infection...I don't know what caused it but it was quite severe..I think my contact lenses were the cause...I don't really know the name of the infection but my eye was very pink, itchy, and watery..I was sensetive to the sun and light for long period of time after the infection went away..Ever since that infection i have more diffuclty seeing because I feel that theres something blocking my view...like a glare..I see a spot everytime I look at my eye in the mirror....My optometrist that treated my infection never told me what that spot was...He just told me that since I had a problem with that eye, I'm more alert about my eye than before but that I kind of always had that spot(something I was borned with) but I never noticed...So I kind of ignored it for while but I was always concern because I felt that there was a problem with my eye...I saw differently...Something i couldn't explain...
Okay but the problem is that I just when to an optometrist( a different doctor not the one that treated my infection) and she told me that I had a scar in my eye and that it was the biggest one she had ever seen..A scar left by the infection..That kind of freaked me out and she also told me that it will never go away...(maybe by surgery) She told me that the scar was causing more astigmatism in my eye..since the scar is blocking my view..She told me that I should go to a surgen and see how big, deep my scar in my cornea is...I didn't really understand what she was saying...
Can my scar cause serious problems to my eyesight? can it make my eye blind?
What can I do? Is there anyway that I can have surgery on my eye to help remove the scar?  Can my contact lenses cause me to have another eye infection - scar in my eye??? How can I basically help my eye? It's still really sensitive to the light and the scar is blocking my view..
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this....

1. The scar is serious in the sense that the second optometrist feels its the cause of your blurred vision and spot in your vision.
2. I will not make you blind if you chose to leave it alone.
3. You need to see a Eye MD ophthalmologist that specializes in corneal disease to see if  PRK laser will polish out the scar. Find one at www.aao.org
3. Yes you are at increased risk for more infections and scarring if you wear contacts.
4. You were given a grave misservice by the first optometrist not telling you about the scar and also by trying to treat the infection himself/herself without referring you to a Eye MD ophthalmologist.
