PLEASE HELP!. DO I HAVE EYE HERPES

by ps2008, May 02, 2008 12:58AM
I got diagnosed with Herpes Complex 2 about 5 years ago. I rarely have outbreaks(1 every 3yrs) and Im currently only taking L-Lysine 2000mg daily. I recently started having problems with my both eyes. I wear contacts and sometimes sleep with them. My eye started getting infected, pussing with a red glossy covering around it. it does feel sandy, but not itchy. Just mild burning. I went to an optomologist about a week ago and he gave me antibiotic, but didnt really say what it was. The antibiotic made it worse, and eventually stopped taking it (it burned so bad when i used it). My eye got better when I started wearing my glasses for 2wks. WELL...the infetction is back. Glasses broke and I had to use contacts again. HOWEVER, when I flip my lid of my eye down, there looks like a shadowy kinda clear looking blister, that looks hollow in the middle. My eye is red, slightly swollen, pussing and feels a little sandy. PLEASE HELP...what could it be????

It's unrelated to herpes. I don't understand why you aren't calling the optomologist[sic] back and seeing them again. Did you honestly think a bunch of toothless yokels on the Internet could do better than a live professional?

You shouldn't be wearing your contacts when you have an eye infection. You risk permanently damaging your eyes by doing so. You can get new glasses in about a hour at many places so go replace them.

You need to follow up on this . it could just be something as simple as allergies but it also could be infection.  don't put this off. Don't try to self diagnose. Go be seen and get this taken care of. You don't want to risk your eye health!

You really don't have to worry about transmitting your genital herpes to your eyes. Just washing your hands after using the bathroom is all it takes. I also hope you wash your hands before putting in your contacts or removing them too which is all it takes.

also lysine isn't really going to do anything to protect your partners from hsv2 if you are in a discordant relationship.  It's fine if it seems to be working for you to keep your obvious ob's to a minimum but keep in mind that it's more than just the number of ob's you are having if you are in a relationship where both partners aren't infected. Also depending on how you were diagnosed with hsv2 - you might want to get a type specific herpes igg blood test to confirm that indeed it is hsv2 you have and not actually hsv1 genitally.
