Hi There,
Try not to worry. Ovarian cysts are very common to women of reproductive age. Another reassuring fact is that 99% of them are nothing and just resolve on their own. How big is your mothers? What kind of tests has she had done?

She had a peice of her womb cut away i think it was, she has had tests done on this and will get the results in 2 weeks, she also went for a scan yesturday on the ovarys and this is when she said that there was a Cyst the size of a grapefruit, which iswhy i am so worried. Both her parents, my nan and grandad, died of cancer and both within 6 weeks of being diagnosed, and im so scared this will happen!! Im also worried about what shes going to have to have done withregards to removing it ect....
Im just so mixed up at the min, i dont know what to think, i just know im scared of what it could be.

Dear Hannah,

Try to be "positive" for your mom and yourself. If I were you I would ask my mom exactly what tests she is having and how they are done and what the results mean. I doubt, very much, your mom wouldn't want to discuss this with you. She, in fact, is probably just waiting for you to ask rather than just give you the information unasked for. Moms tend to try to protect their children, but it sounds like you have a real need to know the details. This will help you get how scared you are feeling under control. Also, remember to be there for your mom to help out. she might have days when she is not feeling very well. Although you are young, you are an adult, and by talking with your mom can begin to understand and therefore, also, help her out. Good luck, sweetie!!!!

Hugs,
Shari

Hi Shari,
I have spoken to my mum about the tests shes having and also the results, but she is also unaware of what is going to happen, this is why im so upset. we have a very open relationship and have no problem talking to each other. She my best friend!!!!
We just trying not to worry until we have something to worry about,,but this is soo hard. and i dont want to ask her to many questions because i knwo shes already upset with the fact that she still doesnt know what the awnsers are herself!!

I am so sorry that you and your mom are going through this.  I am glad that you and your mom have such a good relationship and that you can talk about this with each other.  Keep in mind that over 90% of ovarian cysts are benign.  It is really good that your mom and the doctors are being proactive.  I am glad they are also testing the cyst.  More than likely, your mom will have to have surgery to remove the cyst and possibly the ovary.  Most of us on here have had to have that done also.  The waiting it the hardest part.  I will keep you and my mom in my prayers.  Keep us posted please.

Hugs,
Kasie
