Swollen tonsils / glands

by Rachypoo, May 02, 2008 01:12PM
Hi... I have what feels like a "chronic" sore throat and inflammation of the tonsils and glands on my neck are often inflamed. My tonsils are so large they're classified as "4" on the tonsil grading scale as they touch eachother. It makes it difficult to swallow and to breathe. Along with this, I also have a stuffy nose and am unable to breathe through the nose. The glands on my neck are very swollen and large, to the point that they are visible in size. There is no cough really. My ears also have pain.

This has been going on for at least the past year. I have sought doctors help many times and they tell me it's viral and will go away, and they can't give me anything for it. It's affected my ability to work, to be physically active and to do a lot of things. It does get a little better to the point that I CAN swallow and breathe normally, but it doesn't ever get TOTALLY better. I've seen other doctors who have treated me with antibiotics for the ear infections that accompany it but say they can't do anything for the throat. I persistently tell them it is NOT normal, and they swab me for strep and the results are negative. They have also done blood-tests on me for mono, and they have also been negative and my results were normal.

Any clue what this could be? I'm awaiting a referral to an ENT.
