What is the best treatment option out there for newly diagnosed MS patients?  Are there clinics especially for MS?

Hi cleo...I am not sure it we have spoken before with so many new people it's hard to keep track!  My name is Rena and I have been diagnosed with MS but have been told that my MS is inactive and therefore been refused treatment but it's a long story.

I have a question though...were you diagnosed by an MS Specialist or by a neurologist?  My recommendation would be to seek out an MS Specialist and provide him/her with your medical records including a copy of your MRI and results from an LP if you have them.

MS Specialists have a myriad of knowledge that a regular neurologist doesn't have and in just reading an MRI alone the MS Specialist has so much more history in reading them that they are better equipped to ensure you get the care and treatment that you need.

I don't know where you are located but if you look up your local chapter of the MS Society, they can probably point you in the direction of an MS Specialist.  Usually a referral is required but you could obtain that from your family doctor.

I hope that you are able to get the information you need from the MS Society and if not please post back here again and if you state where you are I am sure we on the forum can find one for you between us.

Lots of Hugs,

Rena

Thank you Rena for being so kind so write back.  I am from Saskatchewan, Canada.  I've just had an MRI done and the radiologist is saying "The findings, given the patient's gender and age, I thought most consistent with a demyelinating process such as Multiple Sclerosis.  Mild degenerative change involves the spinal column as described but there is no evidence of a focal disc herniation or nerve root compromise".

I have an appointment with a neurologist in a month.  Fast Saskatchewan health care!

Thank you for your help.

Hey neighbor...I am from Alberta!  we have equally "fast" healthcare here so I can relate to what you are going through!

There is another member on here that is in Saskatchewan and I am going to give her your information and have her contact you ok?  She might be able to give you further information on where the MS clinics are close to  you and who she has seen and who is the best in her mind ok?

Thank you Rena for thinking of me.  I have been contacted by the other Saskatchewanian.  We have "unique" health care in the prairies don't we?
