Week One - Second Time Around

by Imagine121, May 02, 2008 07:02PM
I found out two weeks ago that the HCV virus is back and so I have begun Week 1 of treatment. My doctor has prescribed Peg-Intron since I had so many side-effects with Pegasys. Does anyone have any experience with both Pegasys and Peg-Intron? I am genotype 1, stage 3, grade 0-1.

I took my first injection a few days ago and Peg-Intron completely wiped me out with feel and aches and pains but I am trying to accept what is to come and hope that my experience with the first tratment will help me.

I thank everyone for your help.

Thanks child24angel for your support, I am coming to terms with going through treatment again.

I wanted to also thanks everyone for advice to my previous post "RELAPSED - Looking for Advice". In that thread I described how I treated for only 36 weeks (I am genotype 1). Many comments questioned this and I also felt terrible that I responded (UND at 12 weeks) but did not achieve SVR. I will probably be hitting myself over the head for this but I have to move on. I believe my doctor based much of his decision on this on the severe side-effects I was having. I'm sorry I did not reply sooner to that previous thread as I have been trying to decide the next steps in treatment and have been in a tremedous fog.

Anyway, as I mentioned above, my doctor has me taking Peg-Intron in the hopes I will have fewer sx's. My plan is to be able to stay at full dose for 48 weeks. I will request a VL test at 4 weeks and see where I stand. My VL two weeks ago was 196,100.

I am recalling the words of the Serenity Prayer as a way of setting myself on a course to success.
     SERENITY PRAYER
God Grant Me the Serenity to Accept the Things I Cannot Change,
Courage to Change the Things I Can,
And the Wisdom to Know the Difference.

Best wishes to All.

I took both before signing up for Telaprevir.  Everyone reacts differently so I don't know what you will experience.  I found the side effects of Peg Intron worse than Pegasys.  I relapsed after both.

Why not try and get inot the Phase 3 trial for Telaprevir?

Good luck with your treatment and I really hope it works for you this time.

That's one of the best sayings EVER... The Serenity Prayer --- whether you believe in God or not... The truth is... Serenity is necessary.

Much luck and big hugs and you go through this a second time.

When it comes to Tx i think its just plain stubbornness.
There is also not much Serenity either.
It is a good saying though.
