by baltic, May 02, 2008 09:14PM
This has been going on since dec. 07 had a root canal done on my 2nd bicuspid and had a temporary bridge put in back to my 3rd upper molar keep coming lose got the permenant bridge put in finally in feb.08 in late march it felt lose and have a puss filled bump on the outside of the root canaled tooth and had a smell I could smell an odor called my dentist and put me on antibotics and went to see him a couple days later he cut the bridge off and the infection came ousing out cleaned it and put a temparay bridge on till could get  my new permenant bridge that took 3 wks in the mean time the temparay bridge I could feel lateral movement let him know that i just got my permenant bridge put on yesterday and this morning I have a puss filled bump on the outside of the root canaled tooth again I have no pain or I am not sensitive to hot or cold what is going on here is this tooth infected so bad that I should get it pulled out is it beyond trying to save  or do I have to spend another 4 thousand to get the root canal redone wait and get another bridge or what at my wits end i thought that exrays would show if the tooth was cracked or if the root was broke or not filled properly I take good care of what teeth i have.I brush floss get deep root cleanings  the whole 9 yards please help and tell me what is going on can not keep on putting out good money over and over again right now I feel like getting them all yanked and getting dentures as I said at my wits end.Thank You for listening to me and any advice you can give asap my e-mail is ***@**** if you e-mail me let me know its about my teeth probelm again thanks

Based on the information provided, it appears that upper second bicuspid and third molar are the abutment teeth for 4 units fixed bridge. The second bicuspid appears to be afflicted with failed root canal treatment. The first consideration is if the second bicuspid is restorable? If yes, redo root canal or peiapical surgery may save the tooth. Seeing an endodontist is advised. Second consideration, third molar is generally not a good candidate for bridge abutment. Third consideration, it's a long span bridge, prognosis is questionable. Forth consideration, if opposing lower arch has second or third molar, the occlusion is difficult for most dentist to manage. In conclusion, if the second bicuspid and third molar are very solid, and lower arch has no third molar occlusion, if there is no second lower molar, it would be even better.the prognosis of fixed bridge is fair. You need to see a highly competent prosthodontist to proceed the restoration. Seeing an endodontist is also advised.

hi,Thanks for the reply to my question see my dentist in the morning and made an appt. with an endodontist but won't see me till the 25 of this month I am not sure of a redo will resolve the probelm as this tooth is not that great anyway and the  3rd molar has not that much there as the infection seems to be desapating the teeth still fill very tight  but the bridge feels a little lose so i am leaning to getting it pulled and get a partial upper denture also a partial lower since I am missing the 2 bottom teeth on that side but would an xray show if there was a break or crack in the root of the tooth and if there is a gap I just can't justify in my head to pay another 4 thousand and have it fail again just can't keep on affording this.Again Thanks

To: anyone that can tell me
seen my dentist and prescribed me very expensive antibotics said maybe I had a crack in my tooth and it would mend back together still have 2 white very small bumps looks like still infection there(kinda small zit size)don't sound right to me that a crack in the tooth would mend its self still says the xray didn't show anything I have an appointment with endodonist the 22nd someone tell me the plain truth should I believe him or when I see the endo and they say it was a failed root canal should I chance it and have them redo or get it took out if it failed 1 time how can I be sure it won't fail again please HELP
