starting peg/rib treatment/alinia/methadone

by dfranzus, May 03, 2008 12:23AM
i start treatment in a couple of weeks, interferon/peg. i have strand 1b with 7 logs. doc started me on alinia but only for 3 days prior to meds.  that doesn't seem like enough???? what can i expect as far as side affects? he suggested i take my shot at night with a sleeping pill (lunesta).  did you have to have pain or nausea meds?  a girl in the office said she took methadone with her treatment plan.  she said it was easiest on the liver and it had a longer half-life.  she also said she was very depressed and didn't feel like getting out of bed.  i sure hope it's not that bad but i am as ready as i will ever be.  thanks in advance for ANY advice or wisdom.

There's nothing wrong with using methadone while you're treating - people use it and get SVR all the time. The trouble is...

...it's methadone.

From what I've observed, it's harder to detox from than even anti-depressants. You would probably be better served by going on Prozac for 48 weeks and staying away from the pain meds unlesss absolutely necessary. SSRIs increase your tolerance to pain (aside from their primary purpose as an anti-depressant) and Prozac (fluoxetine) is supposed to be the easiest to get off of later.
Phenergan (promethazine) is good for nausea - if you even get nauseous.

Good Luck!
