weighing advisability of embolization

by olette49, May 03, 2008 06:06AM
i recently had a 4-5mm berry aneurysm detected on a brain MRI. i'm an otherwise very healthy 58 year old female. i'm not anxious to undergo an embolization as it seems so risky, but my doctor is encouraging it, feeling that the 2-3% risk or death or severe disability of the surgery will quickly outweigh the 1% annual risk of a rupture, especially as I'm relatively young. however, i believe he said that some medical organization (Am. Heart Assn?) discourages embolization if the aneurysm is under 5 mm.  any advice?  aftereffects of the procedure?
