ketotic hypoglycemia

by willow630, May 03, 2008 07:32AM
I am 71 and probably the first case of possibly documented  ketotic hypoglycemic person.  A pediatric endocrinologist by the name of Briebart at Children's Hospital in Atlanta reasoned this after extensive tests
on me.  Both my children (first documented siblings) tested positive for the condition at ages 2 and 5.  My
son is 5" 5" tall and my daughter is 5' 9" tall.  He had retarded bone growth diagnosed at age 10 after medically
precipitated growth hormone.  I have always wondered if the HK was the cause.  He is a normal adult male at
the age of 43 and my daughter is also fine and the mother of five.  The first and fifth of myu grandchildren have/had the condition. The five year old male is still affected, however he has been a good eater since tonsil removal and rarely exhibits the condition unless ill.

We used the urine test strips when my children were pre-pubertal and all went fine. In fact, I could smell the ketones
on their breath and could take remedial measures before they were compromised.  Now my question is:  Does
having the condition as a child lead to diabetes in later life.  I do not have diabetes.  None of us has ever been
obese.  In fact we are on the thin size.  I am 5'4" tall and weigh  125-130.
