Thyroid medications

Has anyone out there heard of anyone that does not do well on any thyroid medications?  I feel like I am one of these unlucky people.  Even though the medication is doing what it is supposed to do as far as bring my Tsh into the " normal " range I still feel amazingly horrible.  My whole body is sore and my stomach and intestines feel like they aren't working properly and now I am going to get a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy.
All of this started when I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and put on the mediciations.  Before that I was fine.  I might of been hypothyroid for who knows how long and not having any real problems other than feeling tired all the time.  Now I'm having chest pains along with the afore mentioned symptoms.

There are some patients that take time finding the right dose/brand of meds -- if you are truly hypo then it will be important to keep trying.

I have tried Synthoid ( generic), Synthroid ( name brand ) and now I'm on Armour Thyroid medicine.  All of the medicines work as far as bring my Tsh back in line but I feel horrible when I am on them.  I know I need the medicine for my condition but now I am having all kinds of Gastro Problems which I never had before starting these meds.  I also have bad joint pains, muscle aches, headaches , heart palpitations etc.  When I stop taking the medicine I feel alot better.  That is how I know that it has to be the medicine causing me this.  Is there any other thyroid medicine that I can try that is more easily tolerated by the body or is there something natural that I can take?
My doctor says that i would be the first patient in ten years of him having his clinic that has had a reaction to thyroid medicine.  I know my body.  I was not feeling like this before I started taking these medicines.  I know I have to have it so I don't know what to do.

Thyroid meds...seems as though no matter what brand of thyroid meds you are using, it takes adjustment and some work and time and lab testing to figure out what works best for you. I am at 2 yrs and finally beginning to feel better or maybe I am just "resolved"...whichever, it is..it is easier. If you need to be on a high dose that makes you crazy, then ask your doc for some supportive meds...like an anti-depressant or beta blocker...such supportive meds can ease the symptoms you are having ...which in turn keeps us compliant. Good luck and keep trying.

Hi, I had a thyroidectomy in 2000, and i have never been right since, they didnt even tell me till i went back for a post op that i had a growth which luckily was beign. Hoever i went on to develop loads of complications and then  they lost my notes!!!!! I have been in and out of hospital for the last 8 years, with all hormone related illness's , they now think i have Carcinoid Syndrome, as my gut hormone blood test revealed an abnormal Chromogranin A level in my body. However looked into this, this would appear or mean i have a NET tumour somewhere in my body

I have had worsening symptons now for 9 months, i chronic diarrehea - i mean nearly every day unless i take codine, flushing spasmodically and i cant walk up 3 flights of stairs without being out of breath.

Does anyone else have anything similar since having a thyroidectimy.?

Kind Regards

Kerry
