4 1/2 year old is very sensitive

by mommy3boys, May 03, 2008 03:27PM
My 4 1/2 year old son has been very sensitive about every little thing, He also is having problems going to the bathroom. He keeps on going # two in his pants. In school they have shapes for the kids to sit on and every week the children change shapes. My son has not changed his shape the whole year. The teacher says he just cries and feel hurt. My husband and I are getting concerned because he seems like he is not acting like a 4 1/2 but acting like a 2 year old. Is there something we can do about this or is this normal behavoir for a 4 1/2 year old. Thanks.

Change is often very difficult for children who are at the sensitive end of the spectrum. A question to answer concerns the ways in which your son is sensitive. You would be making a sound decision to have your son evaluated to see if some of the sensitivity is due to problems - e.g., re: sensory integration or some other mainifestation of processing of stimuli.

Is it normal for a 4 1/2 year old to have bowel accidents??

To mommy3boys:It is not normal for a 4 and 1/2 year old to keep on going # two in his pants. Is this new, was he completely potty trained, and now this? Or has he always had accidents, never been completely potty trained? What do the children have to do to change shapes? Is changing your shape a good thing or bad thing? Is your son upset that he has not changed his shape? A little more clarification on his sensitivity would be needed (in my UNPROFESSIONAL opinion) before a suggestion could be made. Also, several questions need to be asked! It sounds to me like you are concerned that your son acts more like a 2 yr old than a 4 yr old. Sensory integration refers to a child not being able to tolerate things like tags in shirts, seams on socks, textures of some foods, certain lighting and noise...........NOT acting younger than age or having bowel accidents at 4 and 1/2!! Someone by all means correct me if I'm wrong or out of line!!!!!!
