Taking progesterone in first trimester

by valerie888, May 03, 2008 09:29PM
My HCG was low normal and progesterone very low at 4 weeks.  My doctor prescribed progesterone.  My HCG has increased minimally after 2 days, but the progesterone has normalized.  Anyone have experience with progesterone replacement and successful pregnancies?  Anyone have any statistics on success rate with progesterone replacement?  I had spotting x1 day and this stopped on progesterone.  Is this a good sign?

I never had my progesterone tested when I was pregnant before I started taking supplements - prometrium 200mg/oral a day.  It was prescribed for me after two miscarriages as a 'just in case' kind of thing (testing showed I have a blood clotting issue for which I take baby aspirin).  I took the prometrium for the first trimester - and am now 30 weeks pregnant with a future soccer player!  Good luck!

Hi, I had 2 previous miscarriages and all of my blood work came back fine so my dr prescribed progesterone for me, as the woman said above-for just in case situation, for the next time I got pregnant and I started taking the progesterone suppositories in the 1st trimester until my 12th week and I now have a 2 yr old son. My 2nd son, who is now 1, was conceived 3 mths after our first son. I also took progesterone with him but it was the progesterone cream. So I have had successful pregnancies with the progesterone. I hope everything works out for you. Good Luck!!
