throat polyp operation recovery

5 days ago i had a medium sized polyp removed from the right side of my throat (just near to my tonsil), it was painful, but no more than i expected, and after 2 days, it started to feel like it was getting betetr. the pain was lessoning. im now on day 5 and its got alot worse, but almost like a different kind of pain. my tongue has swollen very slightly, and i have ear ache on the side where i had the operation. im taking the strongest dissolvable pain killers in the pharmacy. i was shocked to know that the hopsital didnt want to see me for a check up, and didnt even call me the next day to see how i was after the anesthetic. is this a normal healing process? to get better ish then worse etc? and is earache normal? please help!
