DO I NEED TO GO TO THE DOCTOR ??

by SpiderJoko, May 04, 2008 06:18AM
Ok last couple of month ago, back in 2007 i had an injury in my left ankle. i went to the doctor and was asked to take an X-ray scan. Results showed no broken bone or anything so it was just a sprained ligaments. I was asked to take a rest so i did for abit and then i was back to play football. Since that time i had a couple of twisted ankle but it was fine. Now i'm getting continous pain in my ankle whether i'm sitting down or walking. It's really weird and i dunno what to do. the pain goes away for abit after putting a cream on it. Ankle support is worthless now cuz it doesn't make any difference. PLS tell me what to do..
thx

thx but can u tell me whether it is a serious injury or not ??

I am not a doctor, but what it sounds like to me is that you have had some soft tissue damage (a sprain or a strain) and you didn't let it rest long enough.   With this sort of injury time needs to be taken not only to rest it, but to rebuild the muscles supporting the joint through physical therapy prior to returning to full activity, especially intense activity like football.  When the injury is not allowed to properly heal and then rehab the area gets injured over and over again, each time a little worse and since the body is a unit working together an  injured joint can cause other injuries.  If you ankle is bad, it can put too much strain on your knee, leading to knee problems, which can cause low back problems and so on.  If not taken care of the problem can become chronic and permanent.
So,  regardless of wether the injury is serious or not  (which I can't tell you from an online description)  it should not be ignored, especially if you are in football as a career.
I would have it evaluated in person and get an Rx for physical therapy.
If that is not possible, let us know which part of the ankle hurts.

Hi SpiderJoko, Hope you are feeling better by now? It seems you are having repetitive minor trauma to the foot causing sprain and soft tissue injury which requires a good amount of rest to heal. As you did not have proper rest and also medical care to the foot, it might have not healed and causing you the pain and discomfort. I would suggest you to consult a orthopedic surgeon and get evaluated. Take care and keep updating.

Guys, thanks alot, you have given me the best advice ever. I am more concerned about my ankle now.So far sleeping well and not going to footi alot is working well but i'm still practising outside my house ;), only skills tho. The pain is alot less now. last week i went to my doctor in concern of dry skin in my other foot but i also mentioned to him about my ankle so he looked at it. Well he said, it's fine and the pain is due to continously playing on it. He adviced me to take paracetamol before playing footi which i found quite stupid lololololo. Any ideas ???? but ya thx for the help people, this fourm rocks :).

Hi SpiderJoko, how are you doing? Thanks for your reply and appreciating the advice. I would suggest you to take rest and genltly move the foot in hot water. you need to get a re-check with an orthopedician at least to be of sure nothing is wrong? Do not strain and go to practice till you are certified fully fit to start your practice. If you are not comfortable with the pain medication, do not worry and avoid it but better not to carry on with games. How is your dry skin problem now? Avoid getting exposed to extreme temperatures. Do apply moisturizers and drink lot of water. Take care and keep updating on the progress.

I agree, I don't think you need to be taking pharms for this.  Where in the ankle is the pain?  and what activities cause it to worsen  No guarantees, but I might be able to help you out with a couple of rehab exercises if I can get an idea of which part of the ankle is injured

Ello guys, i hope you all doing well. Well so far things ain;t going so well, my dry skin is still the same unless i use "Oilatum Cream" many times but it keeps coming back. that's not the problem tho, yesterday i was walking to my room, while trying to go through two chairs, one of leg got stuck and i fell on the ground. The problem is that my right knee got smashed on the ground with all my body on it. It did hurt for abit i was fine. Today, in the morning, i woke up and i felt this killing pain in my right leg. i am not able to stand straight with my right leg and it hurts So bad when i try to move the leg up and down espeically down.

my ankle is fine and everything else is top class ;)

Ice it, take anti-inflammatories and stay off it for a few days.  If it doesn't get better or it gets worse.  go to the doc.
Glad to hear your ankle is doing better.

Hi SpiderJoko, how are you doing? Sorry to hear of your right knee injury. I feel you have the blunt injury knee causing pain and instability hence you are not able to bear the weight on right leg. Do you see a obvious swelling? How about the knee movements? You need to consult an ortho doctor and get physically examined and if required x-ray. Do apply local pain gel and hot foment with gentle massage. Pain tablets may help you. Hope you will get better. Take care.
