Healing a partially torn UCL in my thumb.....

Hello All,

I fell on the ice and hurt my thumb but didn't go into the Dr for approximately one month.  It was still quite functional and not that painful.  It didn't seem to get any better so I finally went in and found out I have a partially torn UCL.  I was advised to wear a thumb splint for 4 weeks, of which I have just got to the end of the 2nd week.

My question is this...   It still appears swollen when I remove the brace, not horribly, but noticeably different than my other thumb.  Is this normal for it to remain swollen while healing and being immobile?

Thanks!

Hello dear,
Have you gone for a radiograph to rule out any fracture? You should consult your doctor and show him the swelling so that he can guide you better. You can take some NSAIDS for pain by consulting your doctor.
