HEART FUNCTION

by gyp260, May 04, 2008 08:22PM
What does Akinetic inferior and posterior walls mean, and how does this differ from severely hypokintectic inferior and posterior walls.  What doesabnoraml ventricular systolic function, diaphragmatic and anterolateral wall abornamlities mean in straight forward language that ordinary people can understand. Thanks

Akinetic myocardium means without movement.

Hypokinetic myocardium is presumed to be reversibly dysfunctional. However, hypokinetic segments do not necessarily improve after revascularization  since their outcome can be influenced by the effects of adjacent myocardium. Heart cells may be in hibernation.

Abnormal systolic function suggests abnormal contractions and in the text of heart wall movement disorders, the wall movement impairment does not effectively pump blood.

Which is Worse Kenkieth. Hypokenteic or Akinetic. Do these two meanings above, lend themselves to explain why there is an anterolateral wall motion abnormalities. many thanks Kenkieth
