Painful Glands in groin, 1 pustule on shaft

by drodro, May 05, 2008 09:52AM
Every now and then I get this sore on the shaft of my penis, and in usually the same place. This however, is the first time I noticed the swelling and "tender to the touch" condition of what appears to be the glands on both sides of my groin area. Not to say it wasn't the case in the past, but maybe the first time I noticed it. The sore/pustule on the lower shaft (little less than halfway up the underside -- not visibale just looking down at it, must lift up and look under) of my penis resembles a pimple in that it is fluid/pus-filled and with any minor pressure/manipulation on it (and maybe even on its own) it pops/oozes a little off white-ish substance. Then it usually secretes a dab/small amount of blood/bleeding and small amount of pus?. It seems ciurcular/oval-like in shape, but is not perectly shaped. Also seems to be hard like in texture before being squeezed or "popped," if thats the appropriate term.

I have had this same sore in the same exact spot maybe 2-4 times in the past over the course of maybe 6-10 years. Starting when I was pretty young, and still pretty sexually inactive (not totally). Although I can't remember what exactly I had done up to that point sexually, but It wasn't with too many people if any at that point. The sore/pimple usually would show its face first as a slight bump/itchy irritation, and then eventually build up and "break/breach the surface" -- like a slow forming pimple on your forhead or nose would. It would typically be there for 1-2 weeks, then subside, and go away for a long time. Maybe even year(s) at a time. But it always appears to return to the same general spot.

Once in a while this sore was accompanied by 1 other funny bump furthur up the shaft of my penis ( in the loose skin around the tip) closer to the head, which seemed a little different, yet related to the sore lower down the shaft in that they seemed to occur simultaneously. This bump is now currently there along with the current sore/pustule as I have been discuusing and have seen in the past. This one seems to be the same as the previously mentioned sore, but it doesn't pus/ooze like the lower one briefly does. It forms a little white-head like top, and one time I squeezed it out and like a hard/tuff little sphere/egg (lol- imagine my face while doing/seeing this) like thing popped out. It was like something formed in there. This bump also return to the same general place and there is a scar in the skin from where I popped the last one. This one is right next to the scar.

So to wrap it up, I have had this condition maybe less than 5 times in my life starting in High School. I am a 26yo male, in decent health. I have slept with about 6 or so women in my life, and used protection MOST of the time, but not always.  I am from a middle class family in a nice suburb outside of NY City. I have never had this looked at by a doctor. I've had a girlfriend for about 4.5 yrs and she has had no similar incidents.

Anyone think this is Herpes related? Or maybe just an infection? Or hair follicle?

Long question, short answer. This needs examined by your Doctor. Take care.

Ask your doc to do t type specific IgG herpes blood test.  If you have type 1, this might be related, but it could also be an oral infection.  If you have type 2, that will always be genital.

The next time you get one of these sores, get to a doc within 24-48 hours and get it cultured.

Im leaning more towards an infection, but does anyone else delt with anything similar?

Its weird how it return to the same place.

It returning in the same place is fairly typical of herpes.

The best thing you can do is get this cultured by your doctor.  That will tell you what you have.

Yeah that seems to be the best bet. Thanks for all who already responded and to anyone else who has any input!
