GBS positive and concerned PLEASE HELP!!

by sanetoinsanity, May 05, 2008 12:40PM
I am 40 weeks today and went to the doctors earlier today and he checked my cervix and said that I was 1cm dialated and he told me that he did a stripping of the membranes.. I am Group B strep positive, and of course I like to get online and research things, so when I did.. I read stories about other women who were GBS positive and their doctors did the stripping of the membranes and there were babies who were stillborn and others who had complications shortly after birth such as breathing problems and so on, Supposedly due to the doctor stripping the membranes... This is my first pregnancy and I am very worried about this, but I am also trying to not stress myself out about it, because I dont think the doctors would do anything that would cause harm to the baby.. I just need some reassurance. So If anyone has any advice or anything I would be SOOO appreciative. Or if anyone knows the odds or precentile of these things actually occurring, that would be great. Thank you for your time!

You may want to talk to your doctor about what you researched. I had GBS with my youngest, but ended up having a c-section because baby was big and never dropped. My water broke on its own at home, so as soon as I got into the hospital room and settled, they hooked up the antibiotics IV for the GBS. Everything went fine. Best wishes.

Im GBS positive too! and doctor wasn't too concerned about it... he said either way, with antibiotics there was no risk to the baby....

Now he also offered me to go c-section... which i personally rather do, since she is a big baby and i'm really not into the hours of labor and the pain... lol

yep im a chicken! =)

try not to stress much about it and rather talk to your doc! he might be able to advise better than us! =)
