Cornea Scar left after Lasek operation

by Ray521, May 05, 2008 03:07PM
I have lasek refractive surgery done in both eye 3 months ago. Previously I used to use contact lens to correct the
vision. After the operation I didnt have any complication and my vision became 20/20 and I had a perfect vision
( both short and long) and I was very happy with the result.

Now after 3 months suddenly I  started to have blurred long distance vision while the nearer vision is ok. I immediately went to my doctor, after cheking my eye he said that in my both of eye I have scar in cornea all over the cornea beneath the epithelium. he said that my cornea is overracting and he gave me a steroid drop to put in the eye for ten days and told me to come after that. He said that usually it will heal and if it does not heal then he will change the medicine and even after it does not heal I may need to do a another Lasek to correct the scar.
I am really worried.

a) Can you explain me what can be the reason for such scar and how long it can take to heal by steroid and whether
at all it will heal.

b) If i need to do a another lasek then is there any surelty that it will again result in cornea scar.
does it happen usually after such operation or its very rare and have little chances to cure.

c) I am ususing the steroid drop already for 2 days and still I dodnt see any impreovement. Only when I wake up
in the morning it seems its better but overa the day it come back to same bad situation. Does it depends also
on the rest ( night sleeping...) . Do I need to refrain from driving or usuing computer screen ( strong light from LCD) .

I will really appreciate if you can tell me what should ne the most logical steps and treatement to follow in such situation?

with best regards
Ray

I'm sorry, while I have performed many lasik cases, I do not perform lasek and I don't feel confortable answering your questions.  No experience in this situation.  You should consult with a board-certifed ophthalmologist who is a corneal specialist and who has done hundreds or thousands of lasek cases.

Thanks for your reply. I understand your reservation regarding suggestions.
But I will appreciate if you can put some light in general on Cornea Scar and its implication on vision.

I really appreciate your advice. I will surely go to ophthalmologist  as you advised,  but just want to more scientific information as just it helps me to understand the situation in a more rational and meaningful way while you understand in a clinic not always every query can be answered due to constrain on time during visit.

best regards
Ray
