Bronchiectasis and peribronchial

by Toni4, May 05, 2008 04:55PM
I'm a 36 year old woman that has asthma .  Now I've been sick with a consistent cough . Went to have a CT done and it showed  Findings consistent with bronchiectasis and peribronchial infiltrate in the rt middle lobe and a lesser extent the lingular segment . Now what does that mean ? And what kind of test will I have to have   ?
thank you so much

The bronchiectasis may be related to your asthma.  There is a condition called allergic bronchopulmonary mycosis (ABPM), caused by any one of a number of fungi.  It is seen almost exclusively in people with asthma and results in a rather specific type of bronchiectasis called central bronchiectasis.  Aspergilla is one of the more common fungi causing ABPM.  The treatment for ABPM is oral corticosteroid therapy.

In addition to the association just described, another association has been documented in recent years of bronchiectasis and Aspergillus-related lung disease in the presence of nontuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM).

You should ask for consultation with a pulmonologist, also called a lung specialist, and ask if any of the above may apply to your condition.
