pain on side of knee

by lucysmum, May 06, 2008 05:15AM
Further to the question I posted over a week ago, if anyone has additional info on what this might be -  help is appreciated.

I'm a 44 yr old woman, quite active as I walk everywhere/don't drive.

I have had terrible pain on my left knee (along the right hand side of it). There is no swelling. An x-ray was done and it showed no bone or joint damage.  The knee itself makes cracking/crunching noises whenever it is bent.  I can hardly walk, go up or down stairs and have tried ibubrofen, heat and ice - all,  with no pain relief provided.  I have been referred to a physiotherapist and am trying to hold on until an appt is given.

At times when I walk it feels as though the knee is twisting - with bits going in separate directions (if that makes sense),   Might this be a cartilge or ligament or tendon problem?  I have not been given any info from the Dr and have had this pain for months now.

To traditional medical concept, you suffering from patella chondromalacia ,new point of view, in fact, is  fat pad under the patella has been damaged, that is, under the patella, the fat pad got aseptic inflammation , lead to soft-tissue pain and a lot of the symptoms you described.

Treatment: for the  tenderness under patella, do strong and deep massage, or fat pad  operation.
