Any one know what I have going onBurning lips and red.

I found a couple weeks ago my lips were red and slightly swollen.Burning or stinging also.A white and red area on my bottom lip .across the lip area.At first it pealed off with me placing a warm damp cloth and rubbing it.Pealed off or some did.I tried different creams and topical ointments, including antibiotic creams helped stop the burning but the bottom lip was very dry in the areas where it was swollen with a red and slightly white patchy areas. It took a while before I decided vasolene was the best for it to not burn and left the dry areas feeling better as long as I wore the vasolene.Top lip no bother but a bit red but no places that looked puffy red and white splotches. It got lighter in color redness for a while but came back all like before but not really pealing anymore. The thicker reddened areas with whitish bloches did not drain or appear to have fluid in them, just a bit puffy... The burning comes and goes but better if not left dry so I keep vasolene on it.

I saw my medical Dr.he had never heard of that problem but did try a foltx med with B vit. in it I am not sure.It is a new formula. so the bottle says. Not sure this will help but as he did not know what it was he said it could be viral.Well a virus is not much help unless you know the treatment. Will take this med to see.I did stop all lip balm and lipsticks.Food ?? well I eat very little spicy foods mostly amIf anyone does find a treatment please put it out here so we can find it and Thanks for letting me vent. vegitarian.I was not taking any new meds when this came on my lips.Every person I know says well you have red lips nice not to have to wear lipstick.True LOL But this is not a good feeling.

Thanks Vanessa, Yes my Dr. ran test for b12,b6 etc. Results are not back yet.Last B12
level I had was a bit elavated before all this started..Not due to this, a routine level done because I use to have a low level a year ago.I have been on B12 po vit.

I did at one time have the h poloric bacteria. But that was long ago also.Had  acid
in my stomach that caused a lot of pain and irratation esp. at night.I was treated for the H.P. and then a Dr. took a spec. from my stomach the H.Poleric was then negative.Reason for the spec was a look to see why I was still hurting.I think it was due to the raw spot after the biopsy.Hurt in one spot.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

Burning lips may be a case of stomatitis. Stomatitis may be due to a fungal or bacterial infection. Also, it may be due to certain factors like a hypersensitivity reaction to an unknown trigger and nutritional deficiencies.

A microscopic evaluation of the skin scrapings from the lips may help rule out a fungal infection. Have you had blood levels of vitamin B6 and B12 assessed? Also, are there other associated symptoms like tingling or burning sensation of the extremities?

Follow your physician's advice for the vitamins. Eat well and drink plenty of water. Avoid spicy food and hot beverages to avoid further irritation of the lips.
