The bottom line here is; anything you post on the internet is ON THE INTERNET.

If you have posted helpful things on this board, why would you want it deleted? Someone looking through the archives may benefit from it.

As far as web crawlers go, if you post something on a board, it is ON THE INTERNET. The site owners have no control over what another entity does with that content. I have pictures and links saved on my computer that I took from other sites, just like anybody with a computer does.

I can post those pictures on other boards any time I like without permission from the picture owner. If you post something on a board, it is accessible to anyone with an internet connection, and controlling that information is not possible.

That is why E-mail links are automatically rendered useless on this site. For your protection. If you don't want some lawyer, your boss, or Aunt Martha to find out intimate details of your life, don't post it on the internet.

If your personal thoughts are on some web crawler right now, deleting every sentence you posted on this board will not change that. If it has been taken and stored on another site, it will still exist.

One thing about this board, be it good or bad. You cannot edit posts. On one hand, it means all my atrocious spelling is preserved for eternity. On the other hand, it makes me think twice before banging out an angry response that I may regret in five minutes. Accountability is not a bad thing.

Cancelling your account will not delete all of your posts. That would have to be done post by post. A lot of work, and no guarrantee that the posts will not live on somewhere else.

Uh, sorry.

That post wasn't really for you, other than the part about the archive and others learning from your posts.

It was more for the other poster that was granted her request, it seems. Hope I didn't upset or confuse you.

Hi,

If you have a post with personally identifiable information, we will gladly edit it to remove that information. Posts are public by nature and there is no way around this. We have provided privacy features for journals, and your more personal information like photos in your My MedHelp that will prevent it from being picked up by search engines.
