hcg levels

by mama2bagain, May 06, 2008 05:33PM
on May 9th i gave blood to get my hcg levels checked, it came out to be 260. the dr. called back and said that it should be 1040 on Monday when he wanted me to retake the test. my levels turned out to be 3368. What does that mean? Is that a good thing? the Dr. now wants to do a sonogram, but wont tell me what's going on, all he says is that its routine. Can youhelp me?

Hello,

First, demand more answers from your physician.  In early pregnancy there are a few possibilities.  A normal developing early intrauterine pregnancy, an abnormally developing intrauterine pregnancy, or an ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy outside of the uterus, most commonly located in the tube).  An ultrasound will help locate the pregnancy and the rate at which the hCG rises can help determine if it is a normal pregnancy or not.

Speak to your physician about these matters.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing

That is definetely a good thing!! It shows that your levels are rising like they should be! I don't know much about a sonogram, I haven't had one yet (i'm currently 5 weeks pregnant) but I would just relax and enjoy your pregnancy, if the Dr. says that its all routine I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck!

I would say it is a good thing. The numbers are going up. It will probably mean that you will just be monitored a bit more closely to make sure everything is going as it should. If you do a search you will be able to find some great information. Every womans hcg is different with each pregnancy so there is a huge difference on what is classified as normal. A sonogram will help alot. How far along are you?
